Barbara Ann Williams (September 5, 1946 – July 31, 2025)
We gather to honor and celebrate a remarkable woman of purpose—Barbara Ann Williams—whose life of service, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to community left an indelible mark on Hartford and beyond.
Born and raised in Alabama, Barbara came to Hartford in the early 1960s, bringing with her a deep well of resilience and vision shaped by her lived experience in the Jim Crow South. Those formative years fueled her lifelong passion for teaching the truth of Black excellence and preserving historical knowledge.
At a young age she attended the University of Connecticut, where her journey of service and leadership truly began. Over the decades, Barbara distinguished herself as a Human Resources professional, modernizing practices across Connecticut, while never shying away from fighting discrimination and advancing fairness in the workplace.
Her devotion to the African Methodist Episcopal Church, community outreach, and organizations such as the Doll’s House Foundation reflected her belief that service was both a calling and a responsibility. She stood proudly in the tradition of women warriors—balancing career, faith, charity, and social justice with grace and courage.
Barbara was also known as Miss Bee—a nickname from her beloved late husband—and true to that spirit she embodied industriousness, loyalty, and joy. She was a mentor, a teacher, a fierce advocate, and most of all, a woman who loved deeply. Her children and grandchildren will forever carry the values she instilled: perseverance, kindness, and purpose.
On September 5, 2025, in Bloomfield, Connecticut, we will gather to celebrate her life not as a funeral, but as a joyful tribute—filled with music, memories, and community. We invite you to join us in remembering Barbara Ann Williams and expressing gratitude for her enduring spirit and extraordinary legacy.
