GPCT Launches Modified Emergency Energy Assistance Program September 2

Generation Power CT (GPCT), a statewide nonprofit organization whose mission is to lead the way for secure access to heat, power and water for current and future generations, will open applications for the Emergency Energy Assistance program on September 2.

For years, the organization’s Emergency Energy Assistance program operated in two “seasons” annually. Recently, community feedback and real-world demand have shown that twice a year isn’t enough.  This year, GPCT will launch four Emergency Energy Assistance Cycles: September 2-10; November 2-10; January 2-10; and March 2-10. During these cycles, qualified applicants can apply online to receive up to $500 to assist with a fuel delivery or past-due utility bills.

This year, GPCT anticipates serving more than 5,000 households, and will prioritize households facing a shut-off or low-fuel emergency first. For more information about eligibility requirements and to access the online application, visit gpct.org/gethelp.

“With this shift in our emergency energy assistance program model, we hope to provide reassurance to families experiencing hardship, and increased accessibility to vital energy resources,” says Brittany Bergstrom, Chief Program Officer.

This new schedule is designed to offer more timely support, reduce wait times, and make aid easier to plan for, keeping more Connecticut families safe and connected to their heat, power, and water year-round. The program team will be available during increased phone hours, Monday through Friday, and by email at applications@gpct.org.

About Generation Power CT (formerly Operation Fuel): Over the last 47-years, GPCT has evolved from crisis relief to sustainable solutions—empowering households, transforming systems, and lighting the path toward a more just and resilient Connecticut.
