August 18, 2022 Editors Letter

News is changing. And, so is Northend Agent’s. Sasha and I are committed to evolving our legacy to fit the mold of the era. 2022 has been a tumultuous and beautiful time as we allow our hearts to shine brighter through our work.

Over the past two years, YouTubers, Instagrammers, and social media users have complained about censorship or lost their entire page tied to their livelihood. I have seen people talk about the algorithm and how it is icing them out, especially if that person has a history of speaking a truth that is not seen as ‘politically correct’ or talking about racial matters that could seem remotely unflattering to the white race. This is why print media is still so important today. We provide a safe space for BIOPIC people to share their concerns and feel heard. We are a community newspaper.

We are not in the business of fear-mongering. Instead, we consciously consider what we bring to our readers and the effects we wish to have. We uphold a principle that we only print positive news, which means we do not publish negative news without a change in perspective, a call to action, or more resources or information for you to consider. This means that our writers, local community members, and even our global friends sit with the heaviness of the news not in despair but in search of a gold nugget to share. By doing this, we hope that you can see people like yourself not remaining in a state of fear or anger but transforming that catalyst of emotion into something that we can all benefit from.

Our writers are writing from their heart and sharing authentically in a way that is not included in a predominantly white newsroom. We have a variety of journalists that are traditional and non-traditional. They are people from all walks of life who have shared their thoughts with their pens, and we were right there to welcome their voices and opinions. We will continue to evolve and grow to represent the adaptive experience of Black and Brown people.

You can take us with you on a plane and get a feeling akin to home and community. Newcomers can pick up a paper and get a feel for what this city offers. You can share us with your loved ones, young and old, and they can find something that speaks to them. Northend Agent’s is and will continue to be your reputable source of information. Thank you for being so supportive throughout the years.
